Where We’ve Been (Phase I)

Since January 2010, the RTP Steering Committee has been going out to the community and working with councils, committees, and commissions to get the word out about the Plan and collect input to establish the direction for the Plan’s development. A week-long series of Open Houses and two Connections Workshops were held in communities around the county, and more input was provided through an online Transportation User Survey. In addition, we also placed hundreds of Priority Packets in numerous establishments like libraries, post offices, and coffee shops in communities around the County. And, of course, you found our website.

Over 450 people across the county responded to the online survey. Hundreds more submitted questions and comments via the website, survey, postcards, and meetings. And even more hundreds provided their contact information to keep in touch with the project. Again, Thank You! Your input is important – the region’s transportation system represents a significant investment in our economic viability and quality of life.

Where We’re Heading (Phase II)

In Phase II, we will apply the information from Phase I to explore the region’s transportation needs and our ability to fund them. Phase II begins with a review of the roadway maintenance and capacity needs, transit needs and desires, and bicycle facility needs and desires. At the same time we will be developing a packet of information – How We Fund Our Transportation System - that will describe how transportation infrastructure and services are paid for in the region and what options might be available to increase funding to meet current and future needs.

Some things to look for in the coming months:

  • The Grand Valley Regional Transportation Committee and Steering Committee will host a regional Telephone Town Hall meeting on Transportation and Funding Choices on Saturday, August 7 from 9:00 to 10:00 AM. You can secure your spot in the town hall by signing up in advance. We’ll call you. This will be an exciting opportunity to work with hundreds of your closest neighbors to help make some important decisions on the future of transportation in the region!

  • The Steering Committee will host displays at festivals and farmers markets across the region this summer. Look for us!

What is the 2035 Regional Transportation Plan?

The 2035 Regional Transportation Plan brings together transportation, land use, and community issues in one process. The Plan will identify the future transportation needs of the region, what we can afford, and how transportation projects will be prioritized for implementation. The Plan directs transportation tax dollars into multi-modal (e.g., bike, pedestrian, transit, and roadway) transportation projects in the Mesa County region through an integrated transportation planning process!
